Charlotte Bettendorf rides for Luxembourg and she has been doing them proud here at the XXIX Andalucía Sunshine Tour, which is sponsored by ‘la Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte’ and co-financed by the European Union.
On Thursday she was the winner of the 1.45 class with ‘Con Vados’ and also won the 5yr old Final with ‘Madame van Het Hellcat Z’ a horse we really look forward to seeing in future tours.
Today she excelled herself by winning the Clip My Horse.TV Grand Prix with the 12yr old, bay mare ‘Babacool’ (‘Tlaloc M’ x ‘Urbain du Monnai’) who is owned by Ecurie Francoise Mathy, Bayard SA. This pair are clearly a great team and they stopped the clock in the jump off, with a really speedy round in 38.77s, knocking another really fast rider, the Italian Emanuele Camilli off of the top spot with ‘Chaccrouet’ (‘Chacco-Blue’ x ‘Baloubet du Rouet’).
Charlotte was clearly delighted with the result, this was a really large, 2* Longines Ranking class and there were 19 riders in the jump off: Charlotte told us: ‘My horse Babbacool, she’s so quick and it was a very quick jump off and I’m just amazed about her jumping and being quick and always doing her best!’
In third and fourth were two German riders, regulars on the podium, Jana Wargers with the 9yr old, ‘Nevado de Toluca’ (‘Tolouse’ x ‘Hector X’), who is owned by Ashford Farm BV, and Kendra Claricia Brinkop with ‘Olympke Van’t Merelsnest’. In fifth was The Belgian rider, Cyril Cools with ‘Cloe GP Z’ (‘Corrdino’ x ‘Takashi Van Berkenbroek’).
The British rider, Marnie Darcy Green won the 1.40 class with the 10yr old mare, ‘Ice Cold Z’ another very successful result here for her, as she was the winner in the 1.35 class this past Friday. Second was the German rider, Michael Viehweg with ‘Comanche 29’ and third, the French rider who is almost always amongst the top results, Valentín Besnard with ‘Eros de Carville’.
There was a Spanish win in the 1.35 from Luis Ortiz Agüera with the 13yr old mare ‘Easo J’ by ‘Kalaska de Semilly’ x ‘Hello Pierville’, and who is owned by Spanish showjumping legend, Luis Astolfi. In second was the Belgian rider, Elisa Pietteur with ‘Nirvana de la Pomme’ and in third, another Spanish rider, Nicolás Bidón Daurella with ‘Cuantas de Torres’.
The 1.30 was won by Emma Stoker (GBR) with ‘Q Seven’ (‘FRH Quaid’ x ‘Stakkato’). Laura Monier (FRA) was second with ‘Pialotta B’ and another British rider, Marnie Darcy Green, was third with ‘Kick Pleasure Q’.
Jannie Canovill, from Sweden had another win today on the impressively fast ‘Donnafugata’ in the 1.25, in just 56.98s. Eva Jennen from Belgium was second with ‘Ilona V/D Fruitkorf’ in 60.60s and in third was Xabier Zabaleta Susperregui from Spain, with ’Casallina D’Aix’.
The 1.10 was dominated by British riders who filled seven out of the top eight places!
Lola Luchford was our winner with ‘Izar LB’; Samantha Cowell was second with ‘Harthill Louisa’ and Megan Broadway with ‘Stella Butterfly Z’ was third.
This marks the end of the fourth week of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour. Next week, on Tuesday, we start with the young horse classes (5, 6 and 7yr olds) and on Thursday the CSI4* starts up and in addition, there will also be a CSIYH* 8yr old class.
