Local rider Armando Trapote secured victory in the CSI4* (LR) 1.50m class after producing the fastest clear round (0 in 61.59 seconds) in a major class that saw more than 70 starters. Second place was shared ex-aequo by Sanne Thijssen (NED) and Guy Williams (GB), both finishing clear in 61.95 seconds. Fourth place, also ex-aequo, went to Tom Schewe (GER) and Holly Smith (GB), who also completed the course without faults in 62.15 seconds.
The Circuito Hípico del Sol has now reached its fifth week of competition in the 32nd edition of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour. The event receives institutional support from the Junta de Andalucía — through the Regional Ministry of Tourism and Andalucía Exterior — and the Provincial Council of Cádiz. This week features several international competitions including a CSI4*, alongside a CSI1* and a CSIYH*.
Thursday’s feature class, the CSI4* La Equina Trophy, was won by French rider Julien Anquetin & “Beau de Laubry Z”, producing the fastest clear round of the afternoon (0 in 59.49 seconds) in Arena 3 – Don Antonio. Boris Theodore (ISR) finished second with “Cazan Z” (0 in 60.28s), while Ciaran Nallon (IRE) placed third with “Casalla Blue PS” (0 in 61.05s).
Once again, Armando Trapote was the best-placed Spanish rider, finishing seventh with “Bella PS”, ahead of Javier González Fraga, ninth with the CDE “Sonic JGF”, and Imma Roquet, tenth with another CDE horse, “Dalia del Maset”. All three riders have already qualified for Sunday’s Grand Prix, scheduled for March 8. Spanish riders José A. García Diana, Alex Codina Leria and Carlos Lange Fraile also delivered clear rounds.
Earlier today the Swedish anthem was heard in Arena 5 – Milton after Adam Carey (SWE) & “Julius” won the CSI4* Medium Tour class (0 – 30.95s). The KASK Trophy, a 1.45m class also counting for the FEI Longines Ranking and designed by Spanish course designer Marcos Núñez García-Delgado, proved to be a very competitive and exciting class to watch.
Behind the Swedish rider, second place went to Michael Pender (IRE) & “Starfield Brighteye” (0 – 30.62s), followed by Spain’s Pello Elórduy who finished third and best Spanish rider in the class with “Champenoise de Rampan” (0 – 30.74s). Spanish rider Pilar Cordón also placed among the top results, finishing seventh with “Noblesse du Palis” (0 – 31.80s).
Young horse competitions of the CSIYH* have been taking place from Tuesday March 3 through Friday March 6, with the 8-year-olds concluding today. The 5-, 6- and 7-year-old horses completed their fifth week of competition yesterday.
In the 5-year-old division there were 45 clear rounds on the first day, 29 on the second day and 35 more yesterday.
In the 6-year-old classes the victories went to Nojus Chmieliauskas (LTU) with “Adommellee” (two wins), Ruby Barrs (GB) with “Im Special Balia HD”, Sofia Farman (SWE) with “Cosmos Hastak” (two wins), and Karoline Kjaer (DEN) with “Corbelli Z”.
Among the 7-year-olds the winners were Karoline Kjaer (DEN) with “Lucky Woman JR”, Hugo Álvarez Amaro (ESP) with “O-Tanagra”, Sofia Farman (SWE) with “Gina Ks”, Anouk de Ruijter (NED) with “Conini W Z”, Bianca Babanitz (AUT) with “Nevinda Z”, and Laura Klaphake (GER) with “Coachella 14”.
The 8-year-old classes were won by Fanny Guerdat Skalli (FRA) with “Inoko de Vains”, Enno Klaphake (GER) with “Oki Doki 15”, and Alexander Zetterman (SWE) with “Diamond Heart SD”.
