The Irish riders continue to be on top form here at the fifth Andalucía October Tour, which is kindly sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and External Relations of the Andalucían Regional Government, and the Provincial Council of Cádiz. After their young team winning yesterday’s Nations cup, today one of their best riders had a scorching win in the 1.50 Stephex Trophy class which was held in the grass David Broome arena. Cian O’Connor and the very talented 11yr old mare, ’Canbella Blue PS’, by ‘Cantolar’ x ‘Chacco-Blue’ and owned by Karlswood Partners, absolutely flew around the second phase of the class stopping the clock way ahead of their nearest rival, in just 21.14s. This isn’t their only podium place here at the, tour as last Sunday, they were also third in the Grand Prix.
In second place and just over 2s behind was the American rider, Carlee McCutcheon with ‘Aralyn Blue’, a mare by ‘Chacco-Blue’ x ‘Ludwigs AS’. Third was the Dutch rider, Rogier Linssen with ‘Moneypenny’; and in fourth was Spanish rider, Armando Trapote who led the class for a long time with ‘Caept’n Hook’. In fifth was the Austrian rider, Max Kuhner with ‘EIC Quantum Robin V’.
In the other Ranking class the Irish were also well represented on the podium. This class was the CSI2*, 1.45m Grand Prix which was also kindly sponsored by Stephex and was held in the Milton arena. The winner was Francis Derwin with ‘Parvati AEG’ (‘Arezzo VDL’ x ‘Darco’), in a very competitive 14 horse jump off, beating another well known Irish rider who was part of the Nations Cup team yesterday, Niamh McEvoy who was riding ‘BP Rocket Man’. Slipping in to third place was the Mexican rider, Carlos Hank Guerreiro with ‘Chilipepper Z’; whilst Cian O’Connor was fourth with ‘Corinna Z’ and in fifth was French rider, Marie Demonte with ‘Gentleman Riverland’.
Irish domination continued in the 1.35 with James Derwin and ‘Amos L Z’ taking the top spot. Spanish rider, Hugo Álvarez Amado continued with his great run of results here, taking second place with ‘Ibiza D’Anchat KAR’ and also third with ‘La Plus Belle VDW Z’; fourth was Italian, Luca Moneta with ‘Carla de Boaz’ and fifth was another Spanish rider, Xabier Paz González with ‘Coriano AF Z’.
The 1.30, was won by the New Zealand rider, Samantha McIntosh with ‘James S’, second was Austrian, Bianca Rüscher with ‘Celsia’; third, German Tom Schewe with ‘High Offley Milo’; fourth, Spanish, José David Caraballo Recio with ‘Midelity B’ and fifth was another German rider, Daniel Lahmann with ‘Quanah Parker 2’.
In the 1.20 the winners were, Spanish, Javier González Fraga with ‘Cholita JGF’; Portuguese, Sandra Gaspar Carreira with ‘Missanga 7’ followed by the Irish riders, Gerard Campbell with ‘Livio’ and Shane Moloney with ‘Ita Cave (Zo-Go)’. In fifth was Spanish rider, José Antonio García Diana with ‘Ñoqui de Torres’.
In the 1.10 the winners were: Spanish Blanca Klecker with ‘Miss Douglas’; Hungarian, Nora Jazmín Nagy with ‘Orite 2’; Alexey Mashchenkov with ‘Ophelia Incipit’; Allegra Bank Clark with ‘Meneer’ and Damien Haddad with ‘Iena Wal’.
Tomorrow is the last day of this week’s competition and there will be the Grand Prix , a FEI Longines Ranking class, set at 1.55, where the best riders in the CSI3* will be competing. Entry to the showground is free as is parking and there are plenty of shops to explore in the commercial area, as well as a variety of restaurants to choose from as you watch top class international jumping, all in all a great family day out.
