The fifth Andalucía October Tour is kindly sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Andalusian Foreign Affairs of the Andalusian Regional Government, and the Provincial Council of Cádiz; and today was the first Grand Prix of the event. Top Portuguese rider, Rodrigo Giesteira Almeida and his 10yr old mare ‘Karonia.L’ who is by ‘Harley’ x ‘G-Ramiro Z’; were the winners of this very competitive class. There were 16 pairs through to the jump off with a first round that was very tight on time. The jump off also proved really competitive with Rodrigo going clear in 37.13s to take the top spot on the podium.
Two Irish riders took the next places, second was Clem McMahon with ‘Carneyhaugh Unison’ in 37.44S and third was Cian O’Connor with ‘Canbella Blue PS’ in 37.61s. There was a Spanish rider in fourth, Jesús Garmendia Echevarría with ‘Caramel Blue PS’ and in fifth was Brazilian, Pedro Veniss with ‘Duelante 3K’.
The 1.35 2PhSp class was held in the Hickstead arena on grass and the winner was British rider, Charlie Atkinson with ‘Hamilton de L’Heribus’ (Hoegie Van’t Bergske’ x ‘Komanche des Fontenis’. In second place was the American, Campbell Brown with ‘Mansini LTD’, keeping up their excellent track record for this week, and in third was Swiss rider, Bryan Balsiger with ‘Checker’. Thomas de Wit from Belgium was fourth with ‘Ecuador DW Z’ and the Spanish rider, Hugo Álvarez Amaro was fifth with ‘Ibiza D’Anchat KAR’.
There was another British win in the 1.25, from Sophie Slater and ‘Okehurst MR Mexico’, their third win this week. Second was Spanish rider, Marta García Garat, who has also had a good week with ‘Espoir du Chene’. Third was Italian Lorenzo Argentano with ‘Miss Million’; fourth was Irish, Aine Shortall with ‘Killerisk Can Ya’ and in fifth was German rider, Stephanie Bohe with ‘Colland SR’.
Cassandra Cope and ‘Hamlets Fire’ added to the British wins in the 1.15 class. Second was Canadian, Eva Persiiantsev with ‘Miss Niki’; Maltese rider, Victoria Sprogis was third with ‘Liandro H’; fourth was Spanish rider, Ely Vizcaíno Lawrence with ‘Enzo’ and fifth was the Irish combination of Alannah Grieve and ‘Royale-K Van’t Kattenheye’.
In the 7yr old Young Horse class the winner was ‘Iglou de Beugner’ with Eduardo Blanco Martín fro Spain, their second win so far. ‘Idole de Hus’ was second with Italian, Luca Moneta and in third was ‘Diamond Heart SN’, with Swedish rider, Alexander Zetterman. ‘Nevada’ was fourth with Italian, Giampiero Garofalo and in fifth was ‘Elaisa P’ with the German rider, Stephanie Bohe.
The 6yr olds also jumped today and the winner was ‘E-Quality DW Z’ ridden by Thomas de Wit. Second was ‘O Dorado Equigenne’ with Portuguese rider, Joao Marquilhas; ‘Okido’ was third with another Portuguese rider, Martim Portelas de Morais; ‘Jahnn de Kergane’ was fourth with French rider, Arthur Le Vot and in fifth was ‘Allacanta Z’ with the Spanish rider, Maitane Ríos Hernández.
This concludes the first week of jumping in the CSI3* at the V Andalucía Sunshine Tour. On Wednesday jumping will start up again with the Young Horse classes. On Friday 24th, there will be one of the highlight events, the Nations Cup round with 19 teams signed up to compete.
