Sanne Thijssen with ‘Con Quidam RB’ are the winners of the WKD Trophy

Eduardo Álvarez Aznar with ‘Enjoy de la Mure’, Teresa Blázquez with ‘Nasa de Toxandria’, Alexander Butler with ‘Chilli B’ and Armando Trapote with ‘Tornado VS’ are the top five in the Big Tour Ranking Class

Dutch rider, Sanne Thijssen flew around the WKD Big Tour, FEI, Longines Ranking class today. She was riding ’Con Quidam RB’, the lovely stallion who is now 17 years old and is by ‘Quinar Z’, with the dam sire ‘Cardino 5’.  This was a 1.50 speed class and they literally stopped the clock, with the wind in their tails,  in 63.72s.


The next two placings went to Spanish riders, Olympian, Eduardo Álvarez Aznar took second with ‘Enjoy de la Mure’ (‘Vigo Cece’ x ‘Sable Rose’), and hot on his heels was home rider, Teresa Blázquez with ‘Nasa de Toxandría’ (‘Vertigo Saint Benoit’ x ‘Chopin Van Het Moleneind’). In fourth place was Alexander Butler for Ireland riding ‘Chilli B’ (‘Berlin’ x ‘Cardento 933’) and in fifth, the current Spanish Champion, also based here at Montenmedio, Armando Trapote with ‘Tornado VS’ (‘Toulon’ x ‘Contender’).


In the second Ranking class, the Medium Tour, 1.45, it was a regular face here at the tour who was top of the podium. Turkish rider, Derin Demirsoy with ‘Elzas’, a 14 year old gelding with stunning bloodlines, he is by ‘Diamant de Semilly’, dam sire ’Cornet Obolensky’. This was a 2Ph class and they stopped the clock in just 32.60s.


Spanish rider, Sergio Álvarez Moya and the 9 year old, ‘Charisma HS’, were second. This mare is by ‘Uriko’ and has had a great start to the show here so far. German rider,  Jens Baackmann rode ‘Aglaia J’ (‘Arpeggio’ x ‘Lancino De L’) into third, and British rider, Matthew Sampson with ‘Connecticut’, who is by ‘Conthargos’ was fourth. In fifth was another successful rider here this week, German, Guido Klatte with ‘Qinghai’ (‘Quidam de Revel’ x ‘Cordalme’).


The top three in the Big Tour 1.45 were, Dutch rider, Kevin Jochems with ‘Catch Me’; German rider Jens Baackmann with ‘Zealand 3’ and Tina Lund from Denmark with ‘Cordani PS’.


There was a Spanish top two in the Big Tour 1.35, from Sira Martínez Cullell with ‘Devise du Salbey’ and Kevin González de Zárate riding ‘Calisto de Forets’. In third was Italian,  Giulia Picotto with ‘Armani Z’.


Kevin was also one of the Spanish winners in the Medium Tour 1.40, he was riding  ‘Favorito’. Not content with that, he took the top two places in the 8 year old class as well, first with the gelding, ‘Best in Time DK Z’ and second with the mare, ’Kristal’s Beauty B’. A really great set of results for today!


The winner of the other section of the Medium Tour 1.40 class was  Estrat Mateu with ‘Kontessa Ten Braem’. There were 150 riders in this class.


In the Medium Tour 1.30, Sanne Thijssen was also on top of the podium, riding  ‘Mascotte of the Paddocks’. Second was Spanish rider, and brother of Kevin, Álvaro González de Zárate with ‘Beetlejuice’. In third was Irish rider Ella Clancy with ‘Corraghoe Steel’.


In the Small Tour 4*, Dutch rider Rogier Linssen with ‘Dancing Nini Z’ won the 1.40; Julio Arias Cueva (ESP) riding ’Never Alone’ won the 1.35 and Sofía Westborg (SWE) won the 1.30 with ‘F Termie R12’.


The 1*, 1.20 was also split into two sections.  Israeli rider, Leigh Ofer was our winner in the first section with ‘Queen van de Oostdijkhoeve’ and British rider, Kayleigh Watts with ‘Whisper of Joy’ won the second section, with the fastest time of the day; just 26.67s.  The 1.10 was also split into two, Australian rider, Lissa Green with ‘Expo Di Alma Terra’ won her section with the fastest time of the day, 57.49s, and Belgian rider, Dorien Vandervelpen and ‘Catahleya’ won their section. .


These are the main results from today here at the XXIX Andalucía Sunshine Tour. This event is kindly sponsored by the ‘Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte’ and co-financed by the European Union. Tomorrow classes continue, there are 12 classes including the 1.45, Big Tour Ranking class and a Medium Tour 1.50 class. Jumping begins around 9.00 and ends around 18:00.  Come and watch live international showjumping at its best; to complete your day out there are various restaurants and a shopping area.
