Sergio Álvarez Moya and ‘Charisma HS’, winners of the Pavo Trophy Class

The Spanish rider had a great day as he also had the fastest round in the 1.40 class, with ‘Jolga Van www.Olland.Biz’

Top Spanish rider Sergio Álvarez Moya had a stunning start to his season on the first day of CSI4* at the Andalucía Sunshine Tour 2023. This event is kindly sponsored by the ‘Consejería de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte’ and co-financed by the European Union. In the 1.50, Pavo Trophy speed class, Sergio was riding ’Charisma HS’, a nine year old mare, who is owned by Hugo Simon. The mare is by ‘Uriko’, and is fast and careful. Sergio took the lead in 64.39s from another regular rider here at Montenmedio, Brazilian, Yuri Mansur. Yuri had the lead for a long time as he had jumped a beautiful round, finishing in 64.95s with ‘Miss Blue Mystic Rose’, who has superb bloodlines, being by ‘Chacco Blue’; dam sire, ‘VDL Zirocco Blue’.


The Belgian rider currently ranked 29th in the world, Gilles Thomas, took a well deserved third place with the athletic ‘Elfra Van Beek Z’ (‘El Salvador’ x ‘Vagabond de la Pomme’). In fourth was Spanish Olympic rider Eduardo Álvarez Aznar with ‘Enjoy de la Mure’ (‘Vigo Cece’ x ‘Sable Rose’) and in fifth was the Czech rider Ales Opatrny ‘Forewer’ (‘Caruso 279’ x ‘Grossadmiral’). The course was designed by Uliano Vezzani and held on grass in the David Broome arena and was kindly sponsored by Pavo, who are market leaders in equine nutrition.


This was no the only win for Sergio today, in the Medium Tour 1.40 he had the fastest time of the day and was one of our winners. Once again the class had so many entries that it was dividid into two parts. This time he was riding ‘Jolga Van  www.Olland.Biz’ (‘Eldorado VD Zeshoek’ x ‘Litho’). The other winner of this class; also Spanish, was Jorge Bidón Daurella, who was riding ‘Duska’, who is by ‘Diamant de Semilly’.


Yuri Mansur was on the podium once again, this time on top, in the hotly contested Big Tour 1.35, with ‘Free Party de Maugre’.  This class was also split into two and the other winner was the Italian rider, Luca Moneta, who was riding ‘Knock Out’, and who had the fastest time of the day.


There were Spanish wins in both the Big Tour 1.30, from the young rider, Leticia Riva Gil and ‘Conan de Taute’ and also in the second biggest class today, the Medium Tour 1.45, from the very talented Kevin González de Zárate with ‘London Times PS’. The rest of the results for the latter were, in order; Irish rider, Alexander Butler with ‘Pico’; once again, Eduardo Álvarez Aznar with ‘Janneke B’; British rider, Jane Annett with ‘Hold Up’ and finally, in fifth, was the French Olympian, Penélope Leprevost with ‘Djagger Semilly’.


Today was a very busy day of jumping, with 1,170 horses taking to the arenas. Other winners were; British, Will Edwards with ‘Magic Chanti’ in the 1.30 and Spanish rider, Álvaro González de Zárate with ‘A.N.Barney’ in the new 8yr old class.

In the two 7yr old classes our winners were, Dutch, Geert Van Asten with ‘Quick-Lover Van Het Eelshof’ and Aniek Diks with ‘Qointreau Van’t Hoogeinde’; in the 6yr olds, Hungarian, Rodrigo Szuhai with ‘Carta Blue SZ’ won the first class and the Belgian Ignace Philips de Vuys with ‘Ragnar VDB’ the second. Czech rider Jaroslav Sima with ‘Sashimi JB’ and Belgian rider Inge Carton with  ‘Madame Van Het Hellegat Z’ were the two winners in the 5yr olds.


Access to the showground is free including parking in designated areas. As well as being able to watch live international showjumping at its best; there are various restaurants to try and a shopping area to complete the experience and make a fabulous day out for the family.
