The third week of March brings the final competitions of the Winter Tour at the XXXII Circuito Hípico del Sol. The second-cycle finals for 5-, 6- and 7-year-old horses have already taken place, while the 8-year-old final will be held on Friday, March 20th. At the same time, dressage has started in Montenmedio with a national competition ahead of the CDI events. The week will conclude with the final CSI4* and CSI1* competitions, bringing the seventh and last week of show jumping to a close.
Young horse finals
The second-cycle finals opened the week with a high level of sport.
In the 5-year-old final, Ireland’s Jason Foley won with Castlefield Paris, followed by Great Britain’s Laura Turnbull with Gold Don and Spain’s Abraham Rodríguez Barberán, third with Georgia Z.
In the 6-year-old category, Seamus Monaghan took victory ahead of Jessica Hewlett and Karoline Kjær, while Spain’s Pello Elorduy delivered the best national result.
In the 7-year-old final, Germany’s Lars Kaphake won, followed by Eoin Brennan and Karoline Kjær, with Spain’s Guillermo González Alonso finishing fifth.
Spanish riders including Celine Aragón, Rubén Gómez Crespo, Álvaro González de Zárate, Kevin González de Zárate, Pello Elorduy, Guillermo González Alonso, Emilio Peralta, Carlos Calvo and Abraham Rodríguez Barberán were also among the finalists.
8-year-old horses
The 8-year-old category now heads towards its final, with several consistent performers and Spanish representation among the qualified combinations.
Dressage: CDN and CDI underway
Dressage is underway in Montenmedio with both national and international competitions.
Spain’s Jesús Pascual León won the CDN Grand Prix with Brio de Tucaballoandaluz (69.855%).
The CDI3* masterlist includes 23 combinations, within a total of 67 entries across all CDI competitions. Spanish riders include José Antonio García Mena, Alejandro
Gómez Flores, María Gómez Guzmán, Carmen Gutiérrez Cruz, Rafael Heredia Muñoz, Javier Higuera Carmona, Diego Jesús López Caballero, Andrea Ruiz Junco, Alejandro Sánchez del Barco, Antonio José Vázquez Quintero and Nuria Vila Pérez.
The programme will begin with the Grand Prix, followed by the Special and the Kür. The KAR Sport Horses Grand Prix will take place tomorrow.
Final week of show jumping
The Andalucía Sunshine Tour now enters its seventh and final week of competition, featuring the last CSI4* and CSI1* events.
The event receives institutional support from the Junta de Andalucía — through the Regional Ministry of Tourism and Andalucía Exterior — and the Provincial Council of Cádiz.
