A cracking home win, finishes off the first week of the Andalucia Pre-Sunshine Tour here at Montenmedio today from Armando Trapote and the 10yr old chestnut gelding, ‘Karl P’ who is by ‘Carrera VDL’ x ‘Burggraaf NV’ and owned by Yeguada Valbanera S.L. First to go in an eight horse jump off, where in the first round time faults had been a deciding factor, Armando set off with determination and jumped a stunning clear that was impossible to match. Their round put the pressure on from the word go in the jump off and they stopped the clock in just 41.89s, resulting in a win for Spain in the first Longines Ranking Grand Prix class here at the 2025 Tour.
He told us: “It was very nice winning, Karl, he’s a super nice horse he’s very fast, very competitive. He’s always very ambitious to win so you need to control him a bit and try to not to interfere so much.”
The course: “I really like the way Marcos Nüñez (the course designer today) builds — in a very nice way, very fair for the horses and I’m very happy with the day.”
Armando told us he felt it was super start to the season here, winning the Grand Prix here “next week I will jump another horse in the Grand Prix, ‘Conthargo’ and then I just want to try to build all the horses up to Grand Prix and try to develop them and make ready for the rest of the season.”
In second place was James Whittaker, the British rider stopped the clock in 42.26s with ‘Just Call Me Henry’, who is also 10yrs old and by the legendary stallion ‘Argento’, famously competed by John Whitaker. Third was Swiss, Sasha Barthe with ‘Broceliande Du Lac’ Another 10yr old and by ‘Rock’ n Roll Semilly Persan II’. Fourth was Kendra Claricia Brinkop with ‘Naf Naf’ DMC for Germany and in fifth was another British rider, Chloe Winchester with ‘Korlenski’.
In fact Chloe Winchester had a brilliant day at the office today, she was the winner of the 1.35 2PhSp in 23.90s with ‘Kadermie Van De CrumelHaeve’ followed by her compatriot, Chad Fellows with ‘NPS Klooney’ in 25.15s. Third was German rider, Jens Baackmann with ‘Ay Caramba Z’; fourth, Danish rider, Cecilie Tofte with ‘Chadita’ and fifth, Belgian rider, Stephanie Andries with ‘Dilithy De Spalbec Z’.
In the 1.30 our winner was Austrian, Lisa-Marie Arvai with ‘Chakilly Z’ in 24.52 seconds, just knocking Chloe Winchester off of the top spot in 24.90s with ‘Chakensa PS’. In third was German, Helmut Schönstetter with ‘Kurt D Z’; fourth was Swedish rider, Antonia Andersson with ‘Marola’ and fifth, Spanish, Carolina Aresu Obregon with ‘Melvin N’.
The 1.25 was a busy class with a Spanish top two from Jaime Astolfi Lopez riding ‘Land Ho Mister Mars’ and Mario Peña Sanchez with ‘Roxette HT’. The next three places went to Swiss riders, Steffi Theiler and ‘Verona Z’; Maia Pictet and ‘Nicky Blue Z’ and in fifth was Ruedi Müller with ‘Cayenne Fleur SW Z’.
The 1.15 was won by Swedish rider, Sara Forslin with ‘Cidfire EN’, second was Spanish, Jose Antonio Garcia Diana with ‘Conchita PS’ and third was Ruedi Müller, this time with ‘Cassidy L CH’.
The winner of the 1.00 class was Pedro Mateos Bernaldez with ‘Eldariet van den Hoek Z’ and he also came second with ‘Sea Mylord’. In the 0.80 the winner was Jimena Trapote Blazquez with ‘Ilka van de Kiezel’.
There were two Young Horse classes today, the 7yr old winner was the ever consistent Spanish rider Mickey Seaquest with ‘Leonard T&L Z’ who is by ‘Lavallino Ter Klomp’ dam sire ‘Richeboug’ and owned by Jana Etzel. The stallion topped the podium in this speed class in 63.92s, ahead of Helmut Schönstetter with ‘De Luxe De Plaisir’ who is by ‘Diamant De Plaisir’, dam sire ‘Contract’ and who finished in 64.91s. Third was Alfie Bradstock with ‘Arizona Ospa Z’; fourth Armando Trapote with ‘Arezzo de Llamosas’ and fifth, once again Helmut Schönstetter the time with ‘Chagrandina PS’.
The 6yr old class was won by Belgian rider, Cassandra Malherbe, who has had a great week here at the Tour and who also took third place today. First place went to ‘Like A G6 MKM Z’ who is by ‘Levisto’ and third was ‘Lou Van Het Eikenhof Z’. In second was French rider, Mathilde Longy with ‘Jupiter Du Terral’ a stallion by ‘My Lord Carthago’.
