Brazilian, Joao Víctor Castro wins the Ayuntamiento de Barbate Trophy

riding ‘Charon Van Moeshof’ he stopped the clock in this 2Ph Longines Ranking class in an unbeatable 26.47s

Top win for Brazil today here at Montnemedio from, Joao Víctor Castro with ‘Charon Van Moeshof’. This talented rider went late in the class on the very athletic stallion by ‘Diamant de Semilly’ x ’Fergar Mail’. He took the lead in 27.47s from the long term leader, Spanish, Jesús Garmendia Echevarría who in the end, had to make do with second place. Jesus was riding the 13yr old ‘Sandano 2’, who is by  ‘Sandro Boy’ and their time in the second phase was 27.41s.

 

Really close on Jesus’s heels in 27.45s, was Irish Tom Wachman with ‘Cathalina S’ (‘Catoki’ x ‘Sandro); fourth was Italian Giulia Martinengo with ‘Coynor’ (‘Canstarko’ x ‘Toulon’) and fifth American, Paris Sellon with ‘Aconzina PS’ (‘Action-Breaker’ x ‘Conthargos’).

 

These are our top combinations in this FEI Longines Ranking class, kindly sponsored by the Ayuntamiento de Barbate. The class is a qualifier for the Big GP Olympic 2024 Qualifier held on Sunday.

 

Prize giving was performed by the Mayor of Barbate, Miguel Molina; the first assistant mayor, Ana Moreno; the second assistant mayor, Juan Miguel Muñoz; the delegate for Culture, Ana Valencia and the Sport delegate, Raquel Moral.

 

The 1.40 class had 133 entries. There were two sets of prizes with British, Alena Hughes having the fastest time overall and winning her section on the very consistent  ‘Grannuschka’. The winner of the second section was Spanish, Iván Serrano Sáez with ‘Classique des Loups’. In second were British, Ben Walker with ‘Fygo Von D’Ouwe Grint’ and Argentinian, Martin Dopazo with ‘Carlina Z’. Third were Brazilian, Felipe Amaral with ‘Carisma’ and Spanish, Álvaro Castro Roman with ‘Brigitte’.

 

Swiss rider, Roger Umnus with ‘Kirasinaa RSI’; Spanish, Irene Mónica Horvath with ‘Ventura Mail’ and Swiss, Timo Heiniger with ‘Connor Ege’ were the top three on the podium in the 1.30 and: British, Gabriel James Ball with ‘Mourinho’, Finnish, Janniina Nikku with ‘Numero Valentina Z’ and British, Will Edwards with ‘Farabella Bourbon de Rouet’ in the 1.20.

 

We also had a British top two in the 1.10 from Jessica Dimmock with ‘Dewpoint Diamond’ and Eleanor Harmsworth with ‘Janacek D’. In third was Irish, Joanne Sloan-Allen with ‘WKD Valencia’.

 

The winners in the Young Horses were: 7yr olds; Spanish, Kevin González de Zárate with ‘Cinsey EK’ and in the 5yr olds Swiss, Sacha Barthe with ‘Sienna de Brandegem’.
