Dutch Mel Thijssen and the 14yr old mare, ’Cartolana 2’, (‘Catapult 7’ x ‘Lando’) owned by Stal Thijssen B.V., shone once again today winning the 1.40m speed class. They have started off their Tour brilliantly after their second place yesterday here at the Pre Andalucía Sunshine Tour. The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of Andalucía, through Tourism and Sports of Andalucía.
Today's class was a 2Ph Sp with 38 entries. Mel stopped the clock in the second phase in 24.44s and was the only competitor under 25 seconds. The next three places were taken by Spanish riders, Luis Ortiz Agüerz with ‘Land Ho Mister Mars’ in 25.05s, followed by Elena Appendino with ‘Iceman’ and then Pedro Mateos Bernaldez with ‘Garou de Blondel’. In fifth was British rider, Sameh El Dahan with ‘Kandice Z’.
Pedro Mateos also continued to keep up his great form with a win earlier in the day in the 1.30 2Ph Sp with ‘Naroby Van de Fruitkorf’, an 11yr old mare by ‘Diamant de Semilly’ x ‘Clinton’, who showed her talents beating off the Austrian, Christoph Obernauer with ‘Kleons Samarant’ by almost 2s. Third was Italian, Stefano Nogara with ‘Komet 306’; Christoph Obernauer also took fourth with ‘Kleons Jana’ and in fifth was Íñigo López de la Osa Franco, from Monaco with ‘Golden Diamond’.
In the CSI2* 1.20 class, Swiss rider Charlotte Fievet and ‘Dis Donc S’Eole’ were our winners; second was Spanish rider, Salvador Astolfi Pérez de Guzmán with ‘Grupo Prom Jivaro’; third British, William Walker with ‘Titanium’ and the last two places were also taken by Spanish riders,Blanca Bidón Daurella with ‘Eros des Flagues’ and José Antonio García Diana with ‘Netflix GC’.
In the 1.10, British, Joshua Hutchins with ‘Billy Sarafina’ was the fastest pair beating Ukrainian rider, Kateryna Zhalkovska into second place with ‘Mimosa’; Third was another Brit, Martha Munroe with ‘Henrike’, and fourth and fifth places were taken by another Ukrainian, Kateryna Downer with ‘La Capricciosa’ and ‘Cathano 3’.
The Young Horse 7yr old class was dominated by the German rider, Helmut Schönstetter, once again taking top of the podium, and this time also second with ‘Elektric Explosion’ and ‘EIC Stepstone’. Third was ‘Maestro S’ with. Swiss rider, Edouard Schmitz; fourth ‘Kleons Upside’ and Christoph Obernauer and in fifth was ‘Rintintin D’Esprit’ with Mel Thijssen.
Belgian rider, Cassandre Malherbe had a super set of results in the 5yr olds, taking first and fifth with ‘Lou Van Het Eikenhof Z’ and ‘Like a G6 MKM Z’. Second and third places went to ‘Call Me Beauty Cityhorse Z’ and ‘Contendo’ with the Greek rider, Danai Besdemioti-Avramidou. Fourth was ‘Yuso RS’ with Spanish rider, Javier Jimenez Moguel.
Competition continues tomorrow with six CSI2* classes, including the Ranking which was postponed from today due to inclement weather, and the Small Grand Prix. The 5 and 6yr old Young Horses will also be jumping.
