‘Royal Van’t Schawijke’ and Thibault Philippaerts win the Aloga sponsored, 8yr old Final

Gilles Thomas stays on top form, winning the 1.50m, Barceló Trophy, with ‘Lavanoche T&L Z’

‘Royal Van’s Schawijke’, a gelding by ‘No Doubt Van Het Vlierhof’ x ‘Triomphe de Riverland’ and owned by Team Philippaerts and Stal Aerts, was the winner of the really competitive eight year old Final today, which was kindly sponsored by Aloga.  The 1.45 class was held in the David Broome arena and just five horses went through to the jump off round.  In the top two were Belgian riders, and riding Royal Van’s Schawijke’ our winner was Thibault Philippaerts, stopping the clock in 31.65s.  He told us he was very happy to win the Final: ‘I’m very happy with him he’s an amazing horse, he came here with not so much experience and the last two weeks he gained a lot of experience and he’s ready for this year. To be honest, when I walked the course I didn’t think I was going to win it, it was a very tough course,  it was quite big I thought but I’m lucky to have a very good horse today and he even jumped in the jump off better. So he’s a very nice horse for the future.

A smidgeon behind and in second place in 31.74s, was ‘Ely Des Rosiers Z’ who is by ‘Emerald’ x ‘Thunder VD Zuuthoeve’ and owned by Herik Duran with Nathan Budd in the saddle; indeed Nathan had a great day also taking fifth place with, ‘H’Aubigny de Talma’ (‘Ogrion Des Champs’ x ‘Kashmir Van Schuttershof’). In third place was ‘Hileklaire Un Prince’ (‘Number One D’Iso*Un Prince’ x ‘Clair De B’Neville’) with the French rider, Penelope Leprevost and in fourth was ‘Hunter Des Forets’ (‘Cicave Du Talus*GFE’ x ‘Cassini II’) with another French rider, Benjamin Ghelfi.

The third CSI4* here also started up today, one of the six that we will celebrate during the course of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour, which is sponsored the Junta de Andalucía, through the Consejería de Turismo and Andalucía Exterior, and the Diputación Provincial de Cádiz.
