Spectacular victory for Sanne Thijssen with ‘Con Quidam RB’ in the Diputación de Cádiz GP

Sanne Thijssen has been riding ‘Con Quidam RB’ for eleven years now and was the youngest rider to ever win the prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour, back in 2022 with him when she was just 23yrs old.  This fast Dutch rider had her second victory here this week today, with a breathtakingly fast jump off round and she told us after the class that this 18yr old stallion who she calls ‘her horse of a lifetime’; ‘still feels like a young horse.’  ‘Con Quidam RB’ is by ‘Quinar Z’ from a ‘Cardino 5’ mare and is owned by Stal Thjssen.

Sanne told us:  ‘Everytime, he knows his job and he loves his job and thats probably also why he’s still jumping on this age.  It sounds maybe stupid but in the jump off he’s the best, the faster he goes the more he is fighting and paying attention.  The more you let go the more he likes (it)’.

Sanne is here at the Tour preparing for her season in the Global Champions Tour with the Iron Dames:   ‘It’s a big honour to be in the Iron Dames team for the Global.  So of course I’m going to focus on that… this was just to keep him in shape and that worked out, so next week he will not jump I will still be here at the Sunshine Tour… and then I’m going to Miami and Mexico with him.

These two are clearly a very experienced team, as their time in the jump off demonstrated ,stopping the clock 35.63s, over two seconds ahead of top Brazilian rider, Pedro Veniss who ended up with a well deserved second place in 38.32s with ‘Nimrod de Muze Imperio Egipcio’ (‘Nabab de Reve’ x ‘Tinka’s Boy’).

In third was German rider, Leonie Böckmann with ‘Carter 10’ (‘Christian 25’) and fourth was British, Guy Williams with ‘Ernie of Greenhill Z’ (‘Emerald’ x ‘Caretino’).  Finally fifth, was Japanese,  Eiken Sato con ‘Chadellano JRA’ (‘Chacco-Blue’ x ‘Centadel’).

This 2024, Olympic Qualifier class was 1.55m and designed by Venezuelan, Leopoldo Palacios and held on grass in the David Broome arena.  The class was kindly sponsored by the Diputación de Cádiz

Prizes were handed out by Juan José Ortiz, the First Vice President of the Diputación de Cádiz and by Javier Vidal, Second Vice President of the Diputación de Cádiz and Sport delegate.

The Medium Tour GP was won by Irish top rider,  Michael Pender with ‘HHS Cornetta’ (‘Cornet Obolensky’ x ‘Acorado’).  Second and third were Spanish riders, Jesús Garmendia Echevarría with ‘Callias’ (‘Companiero’ x ‘Casco’) and Diego Ramos Maneiro with ‘Encantado C’SG’ (‘Verdi TN’ x ‘Zeus’).  British rider, Nicole Lockhead Anderson with ‘Madagascar Dwerse Hagen’ (‘Va-Vite’ x ‘Diabeau’) and Czech rider, Ales Opatrny with ‘Holland TN’ took the final two places.

The Small Tour GP was won by British, Emma Stoker with ‘Q Seven’ (‘FRH Quaid’ x ‘Stakkato’) and Second was the Spanish rider, Rubén Gómez Crespo with ‘Allblack de Gressoux’ (‘Pacific Des Essarts’ x ‘Queiros Du Riou*HN’).  In third was Brazilian, Ana Samaia Amaral with ‘Etincelle de la Fosse’ (‘Bocage de Longane’ x ‘Rosire’);  fourth was British, Rebecca Marsh with ‘Stevie G’ and fifth, Irish, Shane O’Reilly with ‘Lancer Luck’.

There was a Spanish top two in the CSI1* GP from Diego Azofra García riding ‘Dassy Hoy’,  followed by Amaia Ucelay Iturriza with ‘Diamand du Breche’;  third was Dutch, Liv Linssen with ‘Cini W Z’; fourth was British, Charlie Atkinson with ‘Silver Strykka’ and fifth was Finnish,  Sonia Leena Hugerbühler with ‘Becordia’.

The rest of todays winners were:  Spanish, Leticia Riva Gil with ‘Cadum de Champloue’ in the Big Tour 1.45;  British, Joe Fernyhough with ‘Calcourt Countdown’ in the Big Tour 1.35;  Michael Pender, in the Medium Tour 1.40 with ‘Highcross Violet’;  Spanish, Esther Barroso Torio in the 1.30 with ‘Baraka Louvo’ and Spanish, Mario Peña Sánchez with ‘Neptunus Van Berkenbroeck Z’ in the Medium Tour 1.20.

In the Small Tour, British, Ben Walker with ‘Melvin VD Bisschop’ won the 1.40 and also went on to win the 1.30 with ‘Heidiemorka’.

British,  Arianna Kuligowski was the winner of the CSI1*,  1.25 class with ‘Ivascalle’ and her compatriot, Richard Jenkinson with ‘Jiroscade’ won the 1.10.
