Swiss rider, Edouard Schmitz was the only rider to finish in under 62s today in the first Longines Ranking class of the 2024 Andalucía Pre-Sunshine Tour. He was riding ‘Abdul-Jabbar du Gibet’ the nine year old, chestnut gelding by ‘Arezzo VDL’ / ‘Charlie Z’. In a stunning time of just 61.66s he took the lead from Spanish, home rider, Teresa Blázquez Abascal with ‘Nasa de Toxandria’ who had gone into first place in 62.92s, early on in the class. In third was Rumanian, Andrea Herck with ‘Epsilon de Roulard’; fourth was Austrian, Christoph Obernauer with ‘Kleons Renegade’ and fifth was another Spanish, home rider, Armando Trapote Mariscal with ‘Cochiloco PS’. The class was set at 1.45m, FT and held on sand in the Milton arena (5).
The winners of the Small GP, a 1.40. jump off class, were Luca Moneta (ITA) and the 11 year old mare, ’Dame du Milon’, by ‘Kannan’ / ‘Hurlevent’. There were seven in the jump off and just four clears. Luca stopped the clock in 40.23s a fraction ahead of the very fast Danish rider, Cecilie Tofte who finished in 40.25s with ‘Touch of Diamond’. In third was Armando Trapote with ‘Espoir de Toxandria Z’. British riders took the last two places, James Wilson with ‘Vuitton of Picobello Z’ and Jodie Hall McAteer with ‘Chica VH Ven Z’.
Mel Thijssen (NED) and ‘Cartolana 2’ continue to be on top of the podium with another win in the 1.45 speed class. In second was Edouard Schmitz, with ‘Karel Doorman’ and two Italian riders were third and fourth; Stefano Nogara with ‘ESI Everest’ and Luca Moneta with ‘Knock Out’. British rider, Sameh El Dahan was fifth with ‘Kandice Z’.
The 1.35 was won by the consistently successful Íñigo López de la Osa (MON) with ‘Golden Diamond’ and Andrea Herck (ROU) took second and third with ‘Poker de Roulard’ and ‘Quadir de Roulard’.
There was a British win in the 1.20 from William Walker with ‘Titanium’. Second was Salvador Astolfi (ESP) with ‘Grupo Prom Jivaro’ and third was, Kateryna Downer (UKR) with ‘Bel-Mia SP’. The 1.10 top three were all Spanish; Manuel Román with ‘Chacco’s Magic’; Antonia Etzel with ‘Quinoa Buzalen’ and Patricia Segura with ‘Helfie Des Chaines’.
The Young Horses 5 and 6 year olds, also jumped today and the Belgian rider Cassandre Malherbe had a brilliant set of results, winning the 6yr olds with ‘Mylove des Mines’ and taking both first and second in the 5yr olds with ‘Lou Van Het Eikenhof Z’and ‘Like A G6 MKM Z’ resp. Second and third places in the 6yr olds were taken by ‘Jewel of D’Arsouilles’ with British, Alfie Bradstock and ‘Sexy Girl Van’t Gebergte’ with Stefano Nogara. Third in the 5yr old class was ‘Yuso RS’ ridden by Javier Jiménez Moguel (ESP).
