Vejer de la Frontera, 4th October 2024:
Montenmedio is ready for the commencement of the fourth, Andalucía October Tour, which will run from the 8th of October to the 3rd of November and which is kindly sponsored by the ‘Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, co-financed by the European Union and the Provincial Council of Cádiz’. With 800 riders and 2,000 horses, hailing from 41 countries the Tour continues to maintain its important position in the international competition circuits.
The director of the Tour, Teresa Blázquez-Abascal at the opening Presentation:
“First of all I want to thank the president of the Provincial Council, Almudena Martínez, for hosting this, the Presentation of the fourth edition of the Andalucía October Tour, here at the Provincial Palace, and also the local rider, Alejandro Fernández for his presence and support.
All of us that make up the great family of the Andalucía Sunshine Tour, are always proud to present a new event, and, on this occasion, we are pleased to announce the start of the well known, Andalucía October Tour, which will begin next Tuesday, October 8th and will end on November 3rd, with the pinnacle of the event being the celebration of the Grand Prix class sponsored by the Provincial Council of Cadiz."
The director went on to outline the Tour; it consists of four weeks of intense competition; 10 Spanish Championships in the categories; Absolute, Young Riders, Classic and Young Horses.Top international CSI3*, CSIO3* and Longines FEI Ranking classes and overall, there is a total of 800,000 euros in prizes.
Most notable new features include the return of Dressage to Montenmedio, with a CDN3*; the Spanish Dressage Championships, Young Horses and the Finals of the North-South Pony League. Such events will increase the appeal of the Tour to equestrians of all disciplines. As well as the above there will be a Nations Cup with a record number of 18 teams participating, and for the first time, Turkey and Germany will be competing here in this prestigious event.
Teresa Blázquez-Abascal summed up the presentation:
"I would like to thank the sponsorship of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, co-financed by the European Union, and the Provincial Council of Cadiz, which continues to aid us in the development of Montenmedio, into the epicentre of world equestrianism. In addition, I invite everyone to come and enjoy the event; entry is free and as well as watching top sport, you can also experience a really wonderful atmosphere."
The economic impact of these weeks of competition in the La Janda area is considerable. Almudena Martínez, the president of the Provincial Council, estimates that the event will generate around 25 million euros, this includes 850 jobs both directly and indirectly, connected to the event. The Tour also generates around 10,000 overnight stays, and with a daily expenditure per person of approximately 256 euros. The event generates a considerable economic boost to an area that would otherwise be very quiet during the off- season. This de-seasonalisation of tourism in the region of Cádiz is really significant. Martínez commented that “Our commitment is to continue growing in the tourism sector, but rewarding quality over quantity, consolidating the province as a high-level destination, and competitions such as this contribute to strengthening that image.”
Alejandro Fernández, a top local rider, added that it is a great pleasure to have such a competition in La Janda. “We are really proud to count on a Tour of such a top level in Andalucía, it allows us to remain here in Spain to compete at this level, rather than travelling to other European countries.”
The Andalucía October Tour is emerging as a driving force, not only for equestrian sport at a national and international level, but also for the local economy, tourism and culture of the Cádiz region.
