The last week of competition kicks off with over 100 Young Horses taking to the arenas

Erika Lickhammer-Van Helmond repeats last week’s ‘Wednesday win’ in the 7yr old class with ‘Koberlina TN’

Niamh Mcevoy repeats her second place with ‘BP Limitless’ with Santiago Díaz Ortega and ‘Kalahari’ taking third

 

Tomorrow the CSIO3* starts and on Friday we look forward to the Nations Cup with 15 countries taking part

 

The Young Horses were back in the arenas today here at the II Andalucía October Tour with around 100 horses taking part in the three age classes .

 

The 7yr old class was held in the Milton arena; the top two on the podium repeated last Wednesday’s results, with the winner of the class, Swedish rider, Erika Lickhammer-Ven Helmond. She was riding the mare ‘Koberlina TN’ (‘Eldorado Van de Zeshoek’ x ‘Verdi’) who is owned by Whitney Sorenson, and stopped the clock in the second phase in 22.84s. Once again Irish rider, Niamh Mcevoy repeated last week’s second place with ’BP Limitless’ ( ‘Elvis Ter Putte’ x ‘Laughton’s Flight’), owned by Breen Equestrian Ltd, stopping the clock in the second phase in a time of 23.54s. In third place was Columbian rider, Santiago Diaz Ortega with ‘Kalahari’ by ‘Kannan’ in 23.73s, this mare is owned by Future Stars Sporthorses Management. Cora Sharkey from Ireland with ‘AHG Whiterock Duggie’ was fourth with Portugal’s Rodrigo Giestiera Almeida, Sunday’s GP winner, coming fifth with ‘Karonia L’.  In all there were 38 clear rounds in the class. 

 

The 5 and 6yr olds started off their week with FnoT classes and had the opportunity to jump on grass in the Hickstead arena. There were 21 horses in the 5yr olds and 12 jumped clear.  There were 36 in the 6yr olds with 22 clears.  Tomorrow the 5 and 6yr olds will jump in 2Ph Sp classes and the 7yr olds will have a (FT) speed class.

 

Tomorrow both the CSI2* and the third CSI3O* begin, the latter with three classes including both the 1.45m class which will be on grass in the David Broome arena and a 1.50m in the Milton arena. On Friday we look forward to the Nations Cup with 15 Nations facing each other, in what is also a qualifier for the 2023 European Championships.

Teams are Argentina, Belgium, Brasil, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, United States and Spain. British chef d’equipe is Di Lampard, and the team hope to repeat last year’s winning results here with the new selection of young riders,  Tim Gredley; Louise Saywell; Robert Murphy; Skye Higgin and Joe Fernyhough.

 

Hoping to top the challenge and win the Nation Cups on home ground is the chef d’equipe for the Spanish team, Carolo López Quesada, and the riders, Jesús Garmendía Echevarría, Santiago Núñez Riva, Ismael García Roque, Teresa Blázquez Abascal and Joel Valles.
